English 1st Paper (Class: Six)

Class Test-1 (marks: 20)

Read the passage carefull and answer the questions following it (any 10):
For the people of Bangladesh, March is a month of unforgettable memories – memories of pride as well as of sorrow and grief. It is a month of proud memories because it was in this month in 1971, that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the independence of Bangladesh. In the early hours of the 26th March, shortly before his arrest by the Pakistani army, Bangabandhu declared the independence of Bangladesh. Now 26th March is our Independence Day which we annually celebrate with pride and joy.
But March is also a month of sad memories for us. On the 25th March 1971, the darkness of the night, the Pakistani army swooped down upon and killed many unarmed men, women and children in Dhaka. However, the Bangalees soon rose in heroic revolt and the war of liveration began. On the 16th December of the same year, the 26th March declaration of independence became a reality.
December 16 is our Victory Day. On this day in 1971, the Pakistani army surrendered unconditionally and a new nation, the independent Bangladesh was born.
We, the Bangalees celebrate our Victory Day by remembering with pride the roles played by our fearless freedom fighters and the people at large. On the other hand, we sadly remember all the sufferings and pain our people endured during the nine months long liberation war. We pay our deep respect to the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence of Bangladesh. Along with celebrating our Victory Day on December 16 every year, we should make a pledge to work whole heartedly to build the Sonar Bangla that Bangabandhu dreamed of.
